In today’s world we’re exposed to toxins everywhere. They’re in the food that we eat (in the form of pesticides and preservatives), the air that we breathe (air pollution), the water that we drink (fluoride and other chemicals), the medicines that we take, and even in the cleaning solutions that most of us use. And even though our bodies are quite good at handling this, due to the sheer volume of toxins that our system has to deal with, this can get rather overwhelming.

This is why I recommend that you give your body a bit of time off, allowing it to expel the build-up of harmful chemicals — in other words; a detox.

A good detoxification process takes a bit of time, but can be very rewarding, both for your body and your mind. After a detox, you’ll find that concentrating on your tasks will be much easier, your quality of rest will improve and enjoying the simple pleasures of life will be much more fulfilling. In this article , I’ve compiled for you a list of 9 things that you can do to help your body detox naturally. As with all of my other articles and videos, I’ll only be looking at entirely natural, 100% eco-friendly things, steering clear of any chemicals or artificial supplements!

What is detoxification and why do you need it?

Why our bodies need to detox

By definition, detoxification means cleaning. You’ll be looking to purge the impurities and chemicals from your system. The process takes place in your liver, kidneys, intestines, lungs, lymphatic system and skin. And, if done correctly, that’s where you’ll see the best results. A good detox will help you:

  • Give your organs some well-earned rest, freeing them from the burden of chemicals
  • Stimulate your liver, allowing it to work at full capacity
  • Improve your blood circulation
  • Promote better nutrient absorption throughout your body

How do you tell if you need to detox?

Feeling extra fatigued? Maybe it’s time you gave detox a shot!

Generally, experts suggest that you should detox at least once a year, and I wholeheartedly support this notion. Depending on where and how you live, I would even go as far as suggesting that you do it twice a year, especially if you live in a very polluted area. However, as with all things medical, you will want to consult your GP before you go through with it, as there is a variety of medical conditions that can get in your way. As you’re reading through this article , please keep in mind that I am by no means a medical professional and my content is based on my own experience and research.

Now that we’ve got This out of the way, let’s have a look at the most common signs that you need a detox. You’ll want to go through a detox if you’re:

  • Constantly feeling fatigued
  • Your skin is irritated
  • You’re suffering from allergies
  • You just can’t seem to get rid of the bags under your eyes
  • You constantly feel bloated
  • You’re plagued by mental confusion

If you’re experiencing at least a couple of the above, you should seriously consider a detox!

Detox Essentials

How to get started with detoxification

There are a variety of ways to go about a detox. Some methods involve a week-long program, others suggest a fast, and some experts have even compiled two-day detox programs, for those of you lacking in time! Instead of focusing on a single program, in this video, I’ll go over the different methods, utilised in the most popular detoxification schedules and explain how and why you’d benefit from them.

Say no to the chemicals!

First things first — the best approach to detox naturally starts by eliminating your chemical intake.

Stop consuming all of the following:

Furthermore, you’ll also want to avoid using any toxic (read — store-bought) cleaning solutions and replace them with their eco-friendly, natural counterparts. Try using vinegar, baking soda and lemon acid instead!

Stop stressing out

Stress is one of the biggest and most dangerous risk factors in our daily lives. High stress levels have been linked to a plethora of health problems, like:

When you’re stressed, your body releases certain hormones in your system, giving you an “adrenaline rush” in preparation for a fight. And while this can sometimes be useful to meet a deadline or to perform at an exceptional level, it will wear you down incredibly quickLY, and you want to steer clear of this feeling as much as possible. This is doubly important when you’re looking to undergo a detox, as the stress hormone can not only make you crave a lot of foods that you want to avoid, but it can also slow down your liver detoxification.

The best approach to detox naturally #5 — Cut down on the sugar

White sugar not only contributes to health problems such as obesity, heart disease and diabetes, but it will also make you feel sluggish (after the initial rush, that is). And before you jump to sweeteners, let me tell you- they’re just as bad! Instead of this, try getting your sugar from natural sources — honey and fruits!

The best approach to detox naturally #4 — Eat more fruits!

Fruits are great. Not only can (and should) you replace all sweetened snacks with fruits, but you can also juice them and enjoy them in the form of healthy, freshly squeezed beverages instead of soft drinks like soda! Depending on where you live and the current season, you should pay your local farmer’s market a visit and get yourself some apples, lemons, pineapples, bananas, or berries!

The best approach to detox naturally #3 — Veggies are great for you!

Veggies, just like fruits can both be eaten in the form of salads or squeezed into healthy veggie juice. Commonly suggested in nearly every detox program, things like kale, coriander and spinach juice will go a long way towards cleansing your body from toxicity!

If you’re looking for easy ways to store and drink your freshly squeezed fruit and veggie juices, I’ve got just the thing for you — A stainless steel drinking tumbler, complete with a foldable straw, for maximum comfort, safety and eco-friendliness. Follow this link and get yours today!

The best approach to detox naturally #2 — Keep your cooking oils in check

While veggies, nuts and seeds can be really good for your system, the same can’t be said about their oils. Things like peanut oil, sunflower oil and canola oil can severely diminish the effects of your detox and should be avoided. Instead, try some extra virgin oil, avocado oil or hemp oil, which are rich in essential fatty acids (omega-3, omega-6 and omega-9).

The best approach to detox naturally #1 — Drink more water!

Ah, water. It feels like water comes up in every single health and wellness article I write, doesn’t it? Well, there’s a good reason for that! Water is absolutely vital for maintaining your bodily processes, and you rarely go wrong with having a glass of water. Don’t wait until you’re thirsty — grab a glass right away to get your day started! Furthermore, I’d suggest that you start your day off with a glass of lemon water like I do — it really helps! For more information on the importance of drinking water, you can have a look at my YouTube video on the subject.

Would you look at it — seems like we’re out of time for today! Now, keep in mind — I am well aware that there are many more ways to do a natural detox, these are merely the things that I’ve found to work best. As always with my other health and wellness articles, I’d like to urge you to do a bit of your own research as well — there’s always more information to be found across the internet!
And what about you — have you tried doing a detox before? What would be the best approach to do a natural detox in your opinion? Do you think that I’ve missed something crucial? As always, please feel free to me your thoughts and ideas in the comments below — I simply love hearing back from you!
